Yantai GEF Septic Tanks (ST) Management Pilot Project (2008 – 2013)
•Yantai Septic Tanks Management Pilot Project was funded by GEF grant to support the Yantai Municipality for development of an integrated septic tanks management system to ensure their effective use in rural areas, and to minimize the pollutant overflow discharged to the sea.

•Project Scope: Developing an integrated system for managing urban septic tanks and the Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System (DWTS) for isolated villages or townships
•Project Cost: USD 5.00 million
•Implementation Period: Sep. 2008 - Sep. 2013
•ESD China undertaking: (a) Design of policies/regulations on ST management; (b) Development of information management system (GIS/IMS platform); (c) Monitoring on the environmental benefits; (d) Comprehensive evaluation on the project; (e) procurement; (f) Construction management; (g) Preparation of various operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals for septic system maintenance; (h) Training for staffs; (i) Guiding the implementation; (j) Project promotion and public education for this Pilot Project.
